You’re in for a magical experience in Costa Rica!

The breathtaking natural beauty of Costa Rica enchants almost 2 million visitors every year. Costa Rica is, for many tourists, a highly rewarding destination each year: a unique place on earth that is home to the richest biological wealth that any country could ever offer within the same amount of land.

A visit to the country is magical because of its rich natural beauty and the kindness of its people, who love to share peace and interact with visitors.

The reason for this isn’t strange; Costa Rica is an extraordinary refuge for life, with 5% of the world’s biodiversity in its 51 thousand square kilometers (0.03% of earth’s surface). Costa Rica has a network of highways and roads covering more than 36,447 kilometers, so tourists visiting the capital of San José can easily explore the country’s biological diversity.

A country like Costa Rica is known throughout the world for its spectacular natural riches. Due to that, the tourism industry has made great efforts to position itself in a way that will generate economic and social benefits while also preserving the environment.

Many volcanoes…

Visiting both the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean in one day will give you a glimpse of the natural wealth of each coast. The country is full of natural surprises and a variety of other characteristics that make it an exceptional destination. Did you ever imagine it would be possible to peer into the crater of a volcano and even descend into it? No matter when you want to go, Costa Rica is the ideal place to experience this unimaginable adventure.

It is possible to see 11 volcanoes scattered across the Central and Guanacaste ranges, among them the imposing Poás Volcano, whose main crater may be the largest in the world, measuring almost 2 kilometers across and over 300 meters deep.

Poás and Irazú volcanoes are equally breathtaking. Neil Armstrong could not have imagined a more similar place to the moon compared to the Irazú volcano than the moon. The very low temperature, the magnetism, and the picturesque view will never be forgotten by those who visit the place.

The continual activity of the Arenal volcano has been fascinating volcanologists and geologists since 1968. Nature’s boundless force is reflected in its rumbles.

Many will have the opportunity to witness its incandescent lava descending through the mountains if they are unlucky.

The Rincón de la Vieja volcano is another example of the volcanic sights of Costa Rica, located in the southern part of the Guanacaste range, where the Las Pailas and Las Hornillas areas also exist. Mountain, forest, and clear or cloudy skies that make up the scenery in these places vary depending on the location, the flora, and the birdlife. Everyone who chooses to embark on this wonderful adventure leaves traces in their memory.

Natural challenge

People who have conquered Chirripó hill, the highest mountain in Costa Rica, located in the Cordillera de Talamanca, are familiar with the winds, cold drizzles, temperature changes, blue skies, and constant challenges nature presents. The summit’s elevation of 3,820 meters allows tourists to see the oceans that surround the territory when the weather permits.

Shelters at different levels of height can be found in Chirripó, a national park. It is important to bring enough warm clothes for a comfortable night. Following the climb, visitors can explore the surroundings or hike up to the summit the following day.

The Cerro de la Muerte, at 3,491 meters above sea level, is another of the country’s highest points. You can see the moor vegetation, which is notable for its stunted growth, along the part of the Pan-American highway that passes through the highest part of the hill.

In addition to its mountainous terrain, its climate is heavily influenced by it. The rainy season varies depending on the area of the country where it is registered, even though the country has two clearly defined seasons, the dry and the rainy.

During the rainy season in the Central Pacific, for instance, May and November are the months when most rain falls. On the other hand, the rainy season occurs in the North Pacific and the province of Guanacaste from May until October. From May through November, it occurs in the South Pacific. The Caribbean experiences two distinct weather patterns, where rain falls from May to August and November to December.

In this way, visitors can plan visits to various places based on their own preferences and tastes. Costa Rica enjoys sunny mornings even in the rainiest months.

Temperatures in the country range from 24.9 degrees Celsius (76.8 degrees Fahrenheit) in the Lowlands to 16.3 degrees Celsius (61.3 degrees Fahrenheit) in the Highlands and 20.0 degrees Celsius (68.0 degrees Fahrenheit) in the Central Valley.

Natural Watchers

The Costa Rican initiatives to preserve its natural resources stand out as some of the most valuable in the world.

The result is a vast network of protected wild areas that are in close proximity to each other, preserving the natural dynamics of their ecosystems. It consists of many types of protected areas, including National Parks, National Monuments, Biological Reserves, and Forest Reserves, among others like the National Wildlife Refuge System.

Observing quetzals, toucans, tapirs, deer, sloths, anteaters and monkeys are some of the items that tourists might see in the area that they visit. The area also hosts a variety of tropical flowers and monkeys.

There are numerous large mammals living in the country, including jaguars, ocelots, and pumas, but their presence is very difficult to observe. There are more than 13,000 species of plants in the wild areas, more than 2,000 species of butterflies (diurnal and nocturnal), 163 amphibians, 220 reptiles, 1,600 species of fresh and saltwater fish, and 850 species of birds.

You can witness turtles arriving in Costa Rica among six other locations around the world. Playa Nancite, Tortuguero, Tamarindo, Playa Grande, and Tamarindo are the main places where nesting of turtles takes place.
